The 2006 Bluegrass Futurity Stallion auction was the final event of a wonderful weekend full of stallion showings and auctions. This year’s auction took place once again at the picturesque setting of the Keeneland Race Course in the Phoenix Room located on the fourth floor of the Grand Stand. The view from the huge picture window was breathtaking, overlooking the walking paddock with beautiful thoroughbred farms lining the horizon.

Approximately One Hundred and fifty people attended this elegant evening. The event started at 4:00pm with cocktails being served prior to a fabulous dinner. The auction being conducted by Tom Biederman began about 5:30 and One Hundred and seven stallions where offered. The bid spotters for the evening were Clark Clouse, Walt Robertson, Chad Graham and Tanner Watkins, all working extremely hard to encourage every bid. Sandy Backer, Mary Sue Walker, Nancy McConnell and Melody Adler greeting everyone and signing them up for bid numbers. Melissa Moore was the host of the evening as well as the Futurity Manager.

It was a record shattering evening with Seventy-seven stallions being sold raising $142,000. This is approximately $38,000.00 more than the auction raised in previous years. The sale topper was the last minute entry of the Stallion owned by Undulated Farms, Undulated’s Nut Cracker who had sold for $26,000 the evening before at The All American Cup Auction. Undulated’s Nut Cracker was purchased at the Bluegrass Futurity Auction by Spencer Mains for $25,000.00 The next highest stallions sold where, I’m A New Yorker purchased by Faydelle Schott for $4900.00 Sir William Robert purchased by Royal Crest Farms for $4500.00, Revival purchased by Alice Nunley for $4100.00, VHF Licorice Drop Kid was purchased by Carl Fischer for $3200. Several sold for $2500 and up. It was a great evening and you can still be apart of this lucrative event by purchasing one of the remaining stallions.
